If Your Body Hurts Then You're Doing Something Right, Right??

I was inspired to look up this information for a few different reasons.  It started with this image I posted on my blog a while back:
 Pinned Image
Obviously, you can see that it reads "If your body hurts then you're doing something right."  I pinned it to my fitness board in Pinterest, and it was repinned 370 times, which is a lot.  So many people seemed to like it, and I did not even think about the fact that maybe it was untrue until someone left a comment saying so.  Rather, she said that the saying was not true and that not all pain = gain.  So it made me curious, and this post is the result.

Destination, Determination, Deliberation

I'm drawing some inspiration from Harry Potter today.  My brother is in the process of reading the series, a feat I am quite proud of him for, and we were talking about splinching (too hard to explain here).  The rules of apparition popped into my head and didn't quite leave.  They just seem so perfect to write about.  Destination, Determination, and Deliberation.

How To Get Healthy

I don't have much to say today, but I wanted to share the following image with everyone because it is a very comprehensive and informative set of directions about weight loss that I think everyone, and especially beginners to the fitness world, will find useful.

Sleep Habits: The Negatives and Some Tips

We all know that sleep is essential to function effectively on a daily basis.  A loss of a few hours one night can leave us grouchy, sleepy and less productive for an entire day, sometimes longer.  Unfortunately, this is something I've had to deal with for the past few months, and just as I was working towards getting myself back on a regular sleep schedule, the holiday season came along and completely destroyed that.

Christmas, Fitness, Yogalates and a Weigh In

First off, Merry Christmas to all of you who are celebrating today, and Happy Holidays to those of you who are not.  My family has definitely picked up on my fitness vibe over the past month and the evidence was in the gifts I received this year.  I got a mat for pilates, a training band and some work out clothes which I am just thrilled about.  I have to say though, one of my favorite gifts was my gift to myself.

So...sometime over the last week, my nice, shiny clean bedroom turned into a mess again.  It's driving me a bit nutty, but I'm hoping that once Christmas is over, I'll be able to maintain it.  Half the mess is a stack of wrapped gifts in the corner and the various bit and pieces of wrapping paper and card stock and the materials I needed to wrap and make cards, just sitting all over the place.  I also think that my very long run on sentence might be indicative of what my messy room is doing to my sanity.

Unstoppable: Weigh-in #4, the Non-Scale Victories

Well I am on a roll this week.  I'm getting so much done, but it means I've been neglecting my blog a bit.  I promise, once the craziness of the holidays is over, I'm going back to my once a day or more posting because I miss writing everyday.

Uncluttering Your Life...or Just Your Bedroom

So I woke up this morning, took a look around and my first instinct was to pull the blankets up and pretend my bedroom didn't look like a bomb had exploded in there.  Whenever I start feeling like this, I know it's time for me to do a big clean up.

The Mental Game

The prompt for me posting today is something I found myself doing the other day.  I had had a very long day at work and was finally getting a dinner break at 10:30 pm...I brought a healthy snack with me (a container of carrots and celery) and I had a full waterbottle of water to fill me up.  Unfortunately, it does not take 45 minutes to eat and drink all of this, so I eventually found myself having a stare down with the vending machine across from me.  The M&Ms were calling to me and it had been a while since I'd had chocolate (my aunt's chocolate chip cookies at Thanksgiving).  So what did I do?  I started rationalizing.

Keeping it Brief

Well, today I had a really great diagram to add in, but it's not showing up here, so I'm giving you the link.  What it says is so, so useful and definitely worth taking the time to read.  Here's the link to view it:

Some Quick Tips

It has been a couple of days since my last post, which has been very strange for me.  I have posted at least once a day since I decided to start this blog, sometimes even twice.  I have simply been too exhausted to type anything lately.  My night job extended hours for the holidays and Monday was the first night I had to stay late (1 am).  So my work day turned into 17 hours.  I had to do it again last night and I just did not have the energy to turn on my computer and write.  But I managed to squeeze in a post for today!

If you need a little motivation....

Good morning!  Yesterday I saw a jar of money under the fitness section of pinterest (look it up, it's awesome) and it made me curious, but after reading the description, it totally made sense.  And I loved the idea!  So I'm passing it on to you.

Weigh In #3

So another week has gone by.  I have officially been exercising and eating healthy for a full three weeks.  As with last week and the week before, I was worried about this weigh in because I was nervous the scale would show no change at all.

Body Shape

One aspect of my body that I struggle to come to terms with is my body type, or shape.  Most of the time I look down and all I see are a whole lot of hips that I'm not really sure what to do with.  I've been told multiple times by my mother that I have short legs and a long torso...but to me, I feel like they both just look short.

Some New Ideas

Good morning all!  So my poll is closed.  I asked which cardio machine was your favorite and the results indicated that the Elliptical is the most popular, with 12 votes.  The Treadmill and Other were tied at 5 votes each for second place.  It makes me curious...what cardio machines besides the ones mentioned are the favorites?  Let me know!  The Bike came in as the least favorite with only 3 votes.  That makes a grand total of 25 votes.

Reporting In

Not much to report this morning.  It's been raining the past few days and when it rains I inevitably get a headache or a migraine.  But, I'm staying positive and investigating some new topics.  Look out for a post about body types/shapes sometime this weekend.

Just one won't hurt...

Well it depends on what that one thing is.  One more crunch, sure!  One more squat, definitely!  One more cookie?  Resist and you'll thank yourself later.  Especially when you avoid that very common problem of "just one" becoming a few more than one.

Why Does the Treadmill Defeat Me?

So I have a story and a question for everybody this morning concerning the topic of cardio machines.  This is part of the reason why I've been so obsessed with them the past couple of days, and hopefully it will bring me some closure on the issue.

Which Muscle?

One of the things I really like about the weight machines I use is that there is a little picture that shows me exactly what muscles I am working on.  Unfortunately, the cardio machines do not have any such pictures and I was unsatisfied by the vague terminology of "legs."  So, prompted by that and my poll (see right), I decided to investigate exactly which muscles are getting a work out when you get on one of these cardio machines.  I'm sticking with the main three, the elliptical, the treadmill and the bike just to keep it simple.

Bob's Workout

So I stumbled across this link on Pinterest (slightly obsessed) and I decided to give it a look because Bob Harper is one of the trainers on Biggest Loser.  I'm pretty sure that he knows what he's talking about, you know?  He's usually the one that always gets the best results.  So I was peeking through and decided to try a couple.

Weigh In #2

So, in my mind, this week has gone pretty well.  I've stuck to the good food, completely avoided all soda and made water my new best friend.  I avoided the sweets (except for a lemon bar last night, which I baked all by myself! Yum.), stuck to portion sizes and exercised.  I won't lie though, I was a bit worried about stepping on the scale today because I lost a couple days in a row of going to the gym because of my work day.

Effects of Overdoing It

So I had planned out a post on metabolisms, but in light of what just happened to me, I'm changing it to some of the effects of pushing our bodies beyond their limits.

Morning Wake Up Call

Good morning all!  I hope you woke up feeling refreshed and focused today.  It's time to go back to work.  If you do it with a positive attitude, instead of a negative one, your day will be much better!

Weighing In

So, as tempted as I was to step on the scale this past week, I waited it out and now it is Sunday, my own personal weigh-in day.  As most of you might already know, our weight fluctuates daily, so for most (not all), it is best to not weigh yourself too frequently.  I'm going to stick to weekly weigh ins to track my progress.

Importance of Cardio

So I've mention stubborn belly fat before and I'm sure this will not be the last time I talk about it.  It is an issue for me and I would love to blast it all right off.  I believe part of my problem is that I do not have enough cardio in my exercise plan.

I hope you all had a great Turkey Day and subsequent Black Friday.  I am heading off to work at 3 pm for 10 hours of dealing with Black Friday shoppers....wish me luck!

A quick post though before I go about my Thanksgiving Day success and failures.

Crunches and Planks

I stumbled across the link below last night and I was intrigued enough to try it out.  With the title proclaiming "Fast Track to a Flat Belly!" and going on to claim that you can lose 4 lbs and 3 inches in 7 days, I thought, why not?  I don't have anything to lose at this point.

Stubborn Belly Fat

For all of you out there trying to lose the stubborn belly fat, the link below will bring you to a comprehensive list of things to do to work it off.  Trust me, while you read it, you're going to say, 'I already know all of this!'  But, I say it never hurts to have a list to follow, or a list to have in your favorites to peek at for motivation.  The pictures alone will serve as weeks of inspiration for me.

Tangled, Yoga and some Inspiration

I am 22 years old, but Tangled has me enraptured like I'm 7 again.  I love all of the songs, but I am particularly drawn to the song from the credits.  I personally think that it is a great song to listen to first thing in the morning.  Enjoy!!

Keep Your Chin Up!

This post is the result of a recent gym experience of mine.  For a bit of back story, I used to run track in high school (technically I racewalked - go ahead, you can laugh) and one of the things that has stuck with me through the years is running form.  In particular, keeping your chin up and level.  While I was on the elliptical at the gym, I noticed my gaze tended to head downward to focus on the timer on the machine.  Ugh, I really hate that timer.  It constantly reminds me how terrible my stamina has become over the years.

Water Bottles

One of my issues back in high school was that I was constantly dehydrated...apparently most people do not drink enough daily.  I then made the unfortunate discovery of soda in college and became addicted.  Coca-cola, a source of caffeine and sugary goodness, also empty calories and my ultimate weakness.  Resisting is very difficult, but I've done it for a few days now and hopefully I will be successful in breaking my bad and unhealthy habit.

Do a Squat

I have to say, squatting is wonderful.  I did not really appreciate squats as much until I added weights and really felt my abs being engaged.  Of course, squats work out other muscles too, like your quads, hamstrings and butt muscles!

One of the first steps when it comes to losing weight is apparently to talk about it, put it out in the open and hold yourself accountable.  Make things visible so that you try not to fail while other people are watching you.  It's an interesting idea and one that I'm going to try to adopt here.
