I was inspired to look up this information for a few different reasons. It started with this image I posted on my blog a while back:
Obviously, you can see that it reads "If your body hurts then you're doing something right." I pinned it to my fitness board in Pinterest, and it was repinned 370 times, which is a lot. So many people seemed to like it, and I did not even think about the fact that maybe it was untrue until someone left a comment saying so. Rather, she said that the saying was not true and that not all pain = gain. So it made me curious, and this post is the result.

I'm drawing some inspiration from Harry Potter today. My brother is in the process of reading the series, a feat I am quite proud of him for, and we were talking about splinching (too hard to explain here). We all know that sleep is essential to function effectively on a daily basis. A loss of a few hours one night can leave us grouchy, sleepy and less productive for an entire day, sometimes longer. Unfortunately, this is something I've had to deal with for the past few months, and just as I was working towards getting myself back on a regular sleep schedule, the holiday season came along and completely destroyed that.

First off, Merry Christmas to all of you who are celebrating today, and Happy Holidays to those of you who are not. My family has definitely picked up on my fitness vibe over the past month and the evidence was in the gifts I received this year. I got a mat for pilates, a training band and some work out clothes which I am just thrilled about. I have to say though, one of my favorite gifts was my gift to myself.

So...sometime over the last week, my nice, shiny clean bedroom turned into a mess again. It's driving me a bit nutty, but I'm hoping that once Christmas is over, I'll be able to maintain it. Half the mess is a stack of wrapped gifts in the corner and the various bit and pieces of wrapping paper and card stock and the materials I needed to wrap and make cards, just sitting all over the place. I also think that my very long run on sentence might be indicative of what my messy room is doing to my sanity.

The prompt for me posting today is something I found myself doing the other day. I had had a very long day at work and was finally getting a dinner break at 10:30 pm...I brought a healthy snack with me (a container of carrots and celery) and I had a full waterbottle of water to fill me up. Unfortunately, it does not take 45 minutes to eat and drink all of this, so I eventually found myself having a stare down with the vending machine across from me. The M&Ms were calling to me and it had been a while since I'd had chocolate (my aunt's chocolate chip cookies at Thanksgiving). So what did I do? I started rationalizing.

It has been a couple of days since my last post, which has been very strange for me. I have posted at least once a day since I decided to start this blog, sometimes even twice. I have simply been too exhausted to type anything lately. My night job extended hours for the holidays and Monday was the first night I had to stay late (1 am). So my work day turned into 17 hours. I had to do it again last night and I just did not have the energy to turn on my computer and write. But I managed to squeeze in a post for today!

So another week has gone by. I have officially been exercising and eating healthy for a full three weeks. As with last week and the week before, I was worried about this weigh in because I was nervous the scale would show no change at all.

One aspect of my body that I struggle to come to terms with is my body type, or shape. Most of the time I look down and all I see are a whole lot of hips that I'm not really sure what to do with. I've been told multiple times by my mother that I have short legs and a long torso...but to me, I feel like they both just look short.

Good morning all! So my poll is closed. I asked which cardio machine was your favorite and the results indicated that the Elliptical is the most popular, with 12 votes. The Treadmill and Other were tied at 5 votes each for second place. It makes me curious...what cardio machines besides the ones mentioned are the favorites? Let me know! The Bike came in as the least favorite with only 3 votes. That makes a grand total of 25 votes.

One of the things I really like about the weight machines I use is that there is a little picture that shows me exactly what muscles I am working on. Unfortunately, the cardio machines do not have any such pictures and I was unsatisfied by the vague terminology of "legs." So, prompted by that and my poll (see right), I decided to investigate exactly which muscles are getting a work out when you get on one of these cardio machines. I'm sticking with the main three, the elliptical, the treadmill and the bike just to keep it simple.

So I stumbled across this link on Pinterest (slightly obsessed) and I decided to give it a look because Bob Harper is one of the trainers on Biggest Loser. I'm pretty sure that he knows what he's talking about, you know? He's usually the one that always gets the best results. So I was peeking through and decided to try a couple.
So, in my mind, this week has gone pretty well. I've stuck to the good food, completely avoided all soda and made water my new best friend. I avoided the sweets (except for a lemon bar last night, which I baked all by myself! Yum.), stuck to portion sizes and exercised. I won't lie though, I was a bit worried about stepping on the scale today because I lost a couple days in a row of going to the gym because of my work day.
